Facing Fear: How Therapy Can Help You Move from Stuck to Empowered

Fear is a natural part of being human. It protects us from danger, signals caution, and helps us survive. But when fear begins to take over—shaping our decisions, relationships, and daily lives—it can become paralyzing. Many people find themselves feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to move forward.


At Creating Meaning Counseling, I help individuals and couples navigate through fear with compassion, curiosity, and proven therapeutic tools. The Many Faces of Fear



Fear doesn’t always look like panic. It can show up as:

  • Trouble making decisions or trusting others

  • Physical symptoms like tension, fatigue, or difficulty sleeping

  • Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected

  • Constant self-doubt or needing control



These reactions are often rooted in deeper emotional pain or past experiences. Therapy helps you explore where these fears come from and how they’re affecting your present.



How I Help You Work Through Fear



In my practice, I use a trauma-informed, compassionate approach to meet you where you are. Some of the evidence-based methods I incorporate include:


  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): A powerful tool for helping clients heal from trauma and reduce fear-based responses.

  • Mindfulness Techniques: To help you become more grounded and less overwhelmed by anxious thoughts.

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): To reframe the negative thought patterns that fuel fear.

  • Attachment and Emotion-Focused Work: Particularly helpful in couples therapy, where fear often shows up as defensiveness or distance.



I work with individuals ages 13 and older as well as couples, both online through Creating Meaning Counseling (self-pay) and insurance accepted. Regardless of where you are in your journey, we’ll work together to create a space where fear no longer leads the way.
