Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) was developed by Dr. Sue Johnson after extensive research into how couples form and maintain emotional bonds. Originally created for couples, EFT is grounded in attachment theory and focuses on helping partners identify and transform negative interaction patterns by accessing underlying emotions and attachment needs. Over time, clinicians have adapted EFT principles for individual therapy as well. In individual sessions, EFT techniques can be used to explore early attachment wounds, deepen awareness of core emotions, and build a more secure internal sense of safety. By guiding clients to recognize and express vulnerable feelings, EFT supports healing of attachment-related difficulties, whether in romantic relationships, friendships, or one’s relationship with oneself. Through structured interventions, clients learn to shift from reactive patterns to more open, connected ways of relating, fostering greater emotional resilience and healthier bonds.

Happy couple

EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) can be woven into the therapy process whenever attachment concerns emerge during sessions. If you notice patterns like dependency on others, difficulty being alone, trust issues, or repeated unhealthy relationship dynamics, EFT techniques help you explore the underlying emotions and needs driving these patterns. Through guided dialogues and exercises, you’ll learn to identify attachment wounds, express vulnerable feelings safely, and build a more secure sense of self.

By addressing these attachment themes in real time, EFT supports developing healthier ways of relating to yourself and to others. If you recognize these struggles in your life, consider scheduling a therapy appointment to explore how EFT-informed work can help you heal attachment wounds, increase self-reliance, and cultivate more fulfilling relationships.

Good Faith Estimate You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who donʼt have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any nonemergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
